According to promoter Eddie Hearn, he reached an agreement with Golden Boy Promotions to match Gavin Rees (37-1-1, 18KOs) against WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner in an HBO televised main event on February 16th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Broner (25-0, 21KOs) will be making the first defense of his world title.

"We have agreed on terms with Golden Boy for February 16 and will now proceed to contract. Delighted for Gavin, he deserves this massive shot. Of course its a tough fight but also chance of a lifetime and Gav isn't fazed by it all. And to those pointing out it's a tough fight - thanks for that...we had no idea. This is what you are in the game for," Hearn stated.

Rees, a former WBA junior welterweight champion, moved down to the lightweight division in 2010. The only loss on his record was a 2008 TKO defeat at the hands of the very tough Andriy Kotelnik.
I really like Gavin but as my granddad would say he's going to take a hiding.

Maybe but I think at the least it will be like Matthew Hatton giving Alvarez one of his toughest fights (toughest opponent rather).

I think Rees will aquit himself well and it could well earn him another payday off the back of a good showing. Hes value and will push Broner.

True enough and he has worked pretty hard. I'm sure he will give his all.

Agree on Hatton being Alvarez's toughest opponent. If Matty had any pop he would have had Alvarez in trouble on several occasions.

Rees is going to get battered, I have never rated him. I though Murray would have beaten him if he was fully motivated for the fight. I bet Broner would come to the UK for this fight, easy money.

Can't agree with people saying this will be a tough fight. Rees isn't better then demarco and Broner strolled there.

^^ Agreed. Rees is tough and busy, but he won't be able to make a dent in Broner and could easily get stopped early.
