"Boxing is the ultimate challenge. There's nothing that can compare to testing yourself the way you do every time you step in the ring. " (Sugar Ray Leonard )
I think only an idiot or drunk does not have fear before a bout, so it is ok, man
Only road work and hard training can give you a bit of confidence
Thank for that bud! ill take all your advice and remember that famous quote!
Nerves are good.
Everyone is nervous before they fight whether they say they are or not. As soon as you step into that ring it all goes away. It's just you and the other guy.
Like someone previously said get lots of roadwork in. You can never be too fit! Try running 5/6 days a week a couple miles as well as your boxing training. There is nothing worse than being unfit and tired after the first round and your opponent taking advantage of that. Trust me!

You should be nervey, if you're not then you can really worry!
You don't want to be going in to a fight relaxed and half asleep!
You can either let the nerves get on top of you or you can channel them in to the ring.
All good stuff on this from everyone. No nerves you have a problem. Not sure where you're at in your training BoxerJordan, but mattboxingfan touches on an important issue that relates to nerves and confidence..and performance. The one thing that will overcome it best. Good preparation. And for this sport far too many beginners underestimate the importance of good cardio. Often the deciding factors in amateur fights.
Now I don't prescribe to a run a few miles every day deal. But distance running isn't a bad place to start. Then move into better more explosive related things.

Hi mate.
Fear is good, it keeps you sharp mentally focussed, and improves your speed timing and power.
The more you feel scared, the more adrenalin your muscles have and the harder you will hit them.
(Even mike tyson was scared for alot of his fights)

Can't add much else to this conversation except this: nerves are good before fights, it means you're not stupid!

"A good stickgrappler has good stick skills, good grappling, & good stickgrappling & can keep track of all 3 simultaneously. This is a good trick & can be quite effective." - Marc 'Crafty Dog' Denny
Yeah nerves and blind fear are totally different animals.
