With Velez now out does that open the door for Mares/ DeLeon? Fingers crossed, much better fight imo

Funny u mention that cuz I was hoping for the same but a potential matchup between MAres and Deleon has been cleared up by Espinoza boxing who promotes both fighters..

A fight of this magnitude can't be held in March due to a lack of promotion time, claims Espinoza..

Jhonny Gonzalez will be exercising his rematch clause against Deleon so if the Velez fight doesnt get rescheduled, Deleon-Gonzalez II will take place first..

Expecting Mares to face Deleon as his first opponent at 126 is unrealistic anyways.. He needs to get his feet wet first before taking on Deleon even though Deleon isn't all that.

This is unbelievable. Every other fucking fight is getting cancelled. This means the first three main events on Showtime this year will be Matthysse-Dallas, Bundrage-Smith and Abril-Bogere.

I don't think Mares facing DeLeon in his 1st fight at 126 is unrealistic

Many top fighters have competed against top contenders in their first bout in a new division

Jhonny Gonzalez: After Osejo, I'm Fighting Ponce De Leon - Boxing News

This one might not happen for a bit now, Gonzalez says hes going to exercise his rematch clause after he fights Osejo.

    From Steve Kim's twitter:

Mares- Ponce de Leon is a done deal according to RSchaefer for April 20th at the Home Depot Center!!!!

And Schaefer says he is still trying to iron out the Maidana-JLopez fight as the co-feature that night...

Should be a very interesting fight. Mares getting knocked out is a high possibility if he decides to just trade with De Leon. He needs to use speed.

Should be a good April 20th. No worries about it not happening. There is no way Mares breaks his ankle just by walking like Velez did
