I heard Tua challenged SBW, but Nasser came back with a cycling challenge!?
Quote:
NZ Heavyweight champion Sonny Bill Williams has today announced his intention to challenge David Tua in track cycling.
Says Williams: “Im not afraid, I’ll take him any day of the week.”
When asked why Williams had chosen to take on Tua in cycling, rather than boxing, manager Khoder Nasser had this to say:
“People will say we’re trying to avoid a boxing match with Tua because we’re afraid, but that’s simply not the case. Sonny Bill is a multisport athlete, and we feel like giving fans 2 boxing matches in a row will just come across as stale and unimaginative.”
“Not only are we going to give fans a lot of entertainment, we are also going to trial some exciting new rules to keep them on their toes. For example, we may change the length of the race several kilometres from the finish line, depending on factors which we will determine on the spot.”
Nasser claims these rule changes will be inspired by his early career, when he made a name for himself hosting illegal chicken fights. However, many in the chicken fighting world still refer to allegations of foul play during this time.
Says Robert Jones, of the Australian Chicken Fighting Association:
“I have no doubt those fights were rigged by Nasser. There were times when he’d pull the chicken out half way through the fight and replace it with a paper mache chicken, only to put the real chicken back at the end, right in front of everyone! Everyone in the sport knew he was a crook, but I mean we’re chicken fighters… Who do we go and complain to?
Williams himself says the real motivation for the matchup will be to knock Tua off his perch as Palm Corned Beef spokesman:
“Wearing the black jersey was a huge honour for me, but I always saw it as more of a stepping stone. From the moment I saw Dave as the face of corned beef, I knew where I wanted to be.”
Trainer Anthony Mundine is confident about the race, and has enlisted the help of Lance Armstrong’s nutritionalist David Wyatt.
“We’re pretty confident Dave will give us a little bit of an edge, if you know what I mean.” Mundine then gave a telling wink to the press members present.
The race is scheduled for February 24th, with the course length ‘to be confirmed’ by Nasser no later than 3 seconds before the end of the race.
Haha
