The Great John L is my favorite, not only for his bluff and bravado in the ring, but his antics out of the ring. Can you imagine John L storming into a bar and scowling "I can lick any sonuvabitch in the house!" and waiting for a response that never came? Classic! (read up one one man who did push back on him - Quebec strongman Louis Cyr. Great story). Closely following John L is James Jeffries, cause I think he was the bravest man in the world to come out of his undefeated retirement, with no warm up fights, and face the best HW boxer in the world under the race relation conditions of those times. He had to know he would lose that fight, but took it anyway. And I'll argue with anyone that Jeffries in his prime could have beaten Johnson in his prime, 'cause I think he would have.
