In my opinion, they are saving Wilder for the post-Klitschko era. He has the chance to be a mega star in the US. So, they'll have him hone his craft fighting below average fighters for a while. No rush.
The truth is that there is no one out there that would be a good challenge for Wladimir. Povetkin is the best fight to make, but it's not like he's on a different level compared with the other guys in the division.
Assuming the Povetkin fight can't be made, out of the available guys, Wladimir should face the Arreola/Stiverne winner, Kubrat Pulev, Malik Scott, and Tyson Fury (assuming he beats Cunningham).
