I agree mostly Scrap, but only to a certain extent. They also have their own personalities. Some dogs are just dumb, some smart. Some naturally funny. Bearing all that in mind I just tried to adopt one from the humane society, much like mine once was when I got her, terribly abused. Near the brink of death from malnutrition. Mine was beat to beyond an inch of it's life too by some horrible excuse for a human.

Doubt I will get it though because everyone wants her now after a newspaper article on the story. But hope it pulls thru and gets the chance at a good home. These kind of dogs take a lot of work but can make the best pets if you give them a chance. This is what someone did to it.

mine used to look worse than that. this is her today at 12 1/2 years old:

Bad owners are usually the cause of potential attacks, but do you really want a ticking time bomb that can cause irreversible scarring or fatal attacks in about 30 seconds to either your kids or yourself?

All owners swear by their dogs and say the same thing. The difference is that if humans have a bad day we might curse and get stressed but a dog (esp the notorious ones) dont have that ability.

Eventually though we will all travel to work in cars that drive themselves at 20mph, whilst covered in bubble wrap. Chewing gum will be banned for safety reasons and pets banned because they may attack. The sad fact of life is that shit happens, banning everything isn't always a good thing.

I'm sure more people and children die from chewing gum than dogs actually. No idea on the stats though.

We have domesticated the dogs to one degree or another to be reliant on that owner. If the owner has that bad day and lashes out, stresses, the dog feeds off that. Not to go all fruity but a young dog should be treated to an extent like a impressionable child. Some breeds have taken on the persona of the ones who commonly own them...at least locally. Pitts are used as a status symbol or macho crutch for often dickless hoods with a little man complex. Most aggressive dogs can be rehabilitated but there are those who are too far gone and can be of any breed known.

The thing is most dick heads with theses dogs, can't look after themselves never mind a dog,
when you train your dog to guard, or aggression to people you must remember you have
to be careful. Lets face it theses people are not the careful type, I have breed dogs and I
can tell you, its not the dog its the dick head that owns them.
I have been face to face, with many nasty dogs, its not nice regardless of breed, I put it
down to the dick head that owned them, because that what they wanted.!
Dangerous owners make dangerous dogs, it's a fact .!

this tragedy happens every few weeks in New Jersey and across the river in New York. Makes me sick.

In this girl's case, if they wanted the meat pie, why didnt she just throw it to them when they approached her menacingly? Anyone can tell when a dog is starting to be menacing. They growl in this deep throaty way and you know something is amiss. I'd a tossed that fucking meat pie all the hell way across the back yard and went in and ate some crackers instead.

I was watching crimewatch the other day and this family were being burgled and apparently the dog was scared to death and didnt do anything.

Surely you can train any dog to be a bit of guard dog without being too aggresive?

Whats the point in having a dog if its not going to risk its life for your family.

Yeah, yeah i know its mans best friend and loving family pet but if i ever had to get a dog it wouldnt be a pit bull/staffie type (i have kids) but it would be something that has some balls and would protect my family.

My friend had his house robbed the dog did nothing but take the pat on the head as they stole the goods.

Some dogs ARE inherently dangerous because of their breed.

Up here you cannot own more then 3 dogs unless you are a musher. 5 dogs together regardless of the breed turns into a pack which is something that cannot be bred out. Sad about the kid but I blame the owners.
