see, I think you fail to see my main point.... STAND-UP.
Thats an easy one MMA striking or "Stand Up" utilizes legs, elbows, knees, fists, etc.... instead of one dimensional Boxing(punching only) perfect example of this is when "Iron Chin" Ray Mercer went in there with Remy Bonjasky, Bonjasky kept Mercer at a distance and Landed a Thai Kick to the side of the head ending the fight in about 15 sec... Soon as Mercer tasted that he decided he wanted no part....
You are sadly mistaken to think a Boxer would run over an MMA fighter in a cage...Now if you are talking about taking a MMA guy in putting him in a Boxing Ring and having them Box only then I would WholeHeartaly agree with you..
don't leave out guys like Tyson that know how to throw elbows with great efficency...plus I don't know many experienced boxers that don't know how to strike in close quarters....I know I practice throwing pure elbows instead of hooks at times.....or intentionally punching at the throat...things of that nature.....and as far as striking on the ground forget it...a boxer would live for it....to drive an elbow upside someones temple!!!!! too sweet!!!! and with MMA gloves on...wow that would be some devastating stuff....
Big once a fight gets to the point where you are fighting from in a clinch using elbows and the such it ceases to be boxing and there for the boxer ceases to have an advantage. I'm not trying to say that a pro boxer wouldn't have some success but the science factor of boxing would be thrown out the window. All I know is that in my limited mma experience when I've fought someone who is known to have a good boxing background I simply don't box with them. From my experience boxers really don't like leg kicks and they are somewhat uncomfortable fighting from a clinch. Obvsiouly things like handspeed/reflexes/chin/power still come into play but these are more issue of athleticism and heart.
