Throwing MMA Fights
Just a quick little thought and suggestion concerning the UFC:
A good UFC fighter makes maybe 20-30k to fight in the UFC. Online gambling odds on MMA generally go as high as a 5:1 payout. Rich Franklin, for example, takes his 30k guaranteed to him, drops it on the other guy. Rich Franklin takes a "nasty" hit on the jaw and drops. Rich Fraklin goes home with 100k more than he would have if he had won the fight.
Now, the chances of this happening in the higher tiers of the ufc is pretty low, but when a guy like Evan Tanner is only making 8k to fight on an undercard, most likely as a huge favorite, theres a pretty good chance he may "accidentally" give his arm up for an armbar while GnPing and walk home with 30k more than he would have for winning the fight.
UFC needs to step up and start and start actually paying their fighters a little more than the peanuts they currently pay. With the UFC outgrossing boxing with ticket sales, and either close to or exceeding boxing with PPV sales, theres no reason a boxer should be making more than a mixed martial artists.
And on the other end of the spectrum, the relatively anonymous online gambling sites could help out by capping the max bets on MMA fights, or lowering some of the odds.
Long story short, I dont really want to see MMA become what Boxing has, and the UFC and gambling sites need to step up and make sure that doesnt happen.
Boxing is like a handjob, and MMA is like a hot sweaty orgy with 5 chicks. I could never say no to a handjob, but which would you rather have?
