    Default Throwing MMA Fights

Just a quick little thought and suggestion concerning the UFC:

A good UFC fighter makes maybe 20-30k to fight in the UFC. Online gambling odds on MMA generally go as high as a 5:1 payout. Rich Franklin, for example, takes his 30k guaranteed to him, drops it on the other guy. Rich Franklin takes a "nasty" hit on the jaw and drops. Rich Fraklin goes home with 100k more than he would have if he had won the fight.

Now, the chances of this happening in the higher tiers of the ufc is pretty low, but when a guy like Evan Tanner is only making 8k to fight on an undercard, most likely as a huge favorite, theres a pretty good chance he may "accidentally" give his arm up for an armbar while GnPing and walk home with 30k more than he would have for winning the fight.

UFC needs to step up and start and start actually paying their fighters a little more than the peanuts they currently pay. With the UFC outgrossing boxing with ticket sales, and either close to or exceeding boxing with PPV sales, theres no reason a boxer should be making more than a mixed martial artists.

And on the other end of the spectrum, the relatively anonymous online gambling sites could help out by capping the max bets on MMA fights, or lowering some of the odds.

Long story short, I dont really want to see MMA become what Boxing has, and the UFC and gambling sites need to step up and make sure that doesnt happen.

I agree. I can't believe the UFC pay their fighters the measley amounts they do. Dana spouts all the crap about "you wanna be a fukcing fighter then you should fight for that reason not for the money"

A few years ago I wanted badly to be in the UFC, but was too old, and quite frankly, too pretty! But when I found out how much those guys get paid, SCREW THAT!!!! and for what? fukked up ears? No way. That's part of why I chose to learn how to box.

I seriously feel like the UFC should let the guys wear SOMETHING over their ears. Most, if not all will disagree, but.... I may have taken BJJ if it wasn't for the thought of screwing my ears up. It just wouldn't look good in a meeting at work.

The top UFC guys must be getting something. Why would Arlovski, Chuck, Rich, Hughes, GSP, BJ penn etc stay. I'm sure Pride would jump at the opportunity to sign those guys. I imagine that each org can only support so many fighters. Obviously Pride has more international appeal and has more asian and brazilian fighters where UFC is a more regional org with more N. American fighters.

Apart from Chuck, their top boyz are getting paid F all. Im surprised the likes of Arlovski havent gone to Pride. Pride are going to be expanding to US later this yr so should be interesting to how UFC respond to their competition. Pride is defo the premier organisation in MMA and they pay their fighters well and promote them well.

Arlovski would get wrecked in Pride. He has a glass jaw....he's only 9-4 with all 4 losses by way of KO.

in the EARLY days of pride there were some worked matches (pre determined results) to push a few pro wrestlers that were already popular hoping it would help pride get started, thyre long past needing that now, and its all legitimate at this point

From talking to guys at his gym, Petz seems to be a pretty safe bet against Morgan. I'd say the big money maker in this fight has to be Von Flue over Riggs, because its the risk:gain ratio. He has a decent chance of beating him, and the payout is huge. All depends on if your going to safe bets or huge winners.

Also, be aware that Karo isn't at 100% due to a leg injury. Still no reason he can't beat Diego, but you should be aware of it, as its a possibility Diego could pull the upset.
