I'm tired of Bernard and his "act within the sport"! To bad he took Big George's 2nd career move to this extend, its a joke. As to his ATG status, Please this guy is NOT a great fighter he's a great business man selling all the kid fans a line of BS!!! Bernard was a decent middleweight who is no where near the ATG list in any weight class!!! Ray.

That is a bit unfair, he has beaten young undefeated hungry fighters at the top of their class most of the time. George had a gimmick and a punch but Hopkins has done better.

Hopkins is more of a boxer than ever because he does not carry his punching power at middleweight which was never that huge anyway. He is the opposite to hagler in that regard who went more aggressive as he got older. Hopkins has done far better than foreman, who was just a gimmick that never fought the real best like Lennox who would have battered him.

You have got to be kidding me. He's entitled to an optional defense and it looks like he took his mandatory instead. He never copied Foreman. Foreman retired for 7 years after Jimmy Young kicked the snot out of him to the point where he found God. Hopkins has been going steady. If anything he represents a modern day Archie Moore not Foreman. You cant stop short on a 26 year career.

Denying what he has accomplished and continues to is like denying osmosis. It really does cross the objectivity/subjectivity line. He's an easy top 10 ATG middle, a first ballet hall of famer and arguably a top 50 fighter all time. Given what he has done and when he has done it in and of itself is grounds for historians. Jumping two divisions at close to 40 and kicking the shit out of the man that beat the man puts him in a select group. To then come back down in weight and dissect Pavlik the way he did is incredible.

Tarver. Ditto
Pavlik. Ditto
Cloud. Probably

I respect you as a poster cause I know that you know your shit but I think the personal dislike for Hopkins clouds your judgement of his legacy. I mean no offense at all. Its just an observation.

I don't dislike Bernard I do not appreciate his style of boxing thats all! Which of the opponents you listed are ATG? The only thought thats "cloudy" around this forum is people over using the word "great"!
Bernard has never (especially now) fought great, he fights smart! He has never fought a great fighter other than Jones in 93 and got beat. He won over Jones in 2010 when Jones was long passed prime years! he was beaten by Taylor twice and he's not a great fighter!
Bernard is marketing himself right now and being smart about and that beats picking up the pennies as the "opponent"! He's calling the shots and hand picking who he fights. In the mean time his T-shirt business is booming hahahaha!!!
I don't didcredit or disrespect Bernard but I draw the line when he's refered to as a great fighter. He certainly is not a top tier middle all time and as a ltHvy he would get hurt! He hasn't got ATG power and as a front main event fighter he would need to stand and fight or atleast punch off his movement. The back to the ropes "sliding" around the ring would get him hurt badly against Spinks or Foster and Charles. He's not a great puncher he's a stratigised and can get away with it against the kids he fights today because their NOT hungry or experienced. Same could be said about todays fans they don't know what an exciting fighters is because there isn't one fighting right now! Ray

Sorry Ray but @Violent Demise is right, if you honestly believe that Hopkins isn't an all time great then you need your head testing. I'm not even a Hopkins fan, but his skillset and achievements are undeniable and to not respect that is pure idiocy in my opinion.

You see I've been in the boxing game a long time and I know the game Bernard is running and you won't see him in there tuff anymore! (tuff meaning an opponent that could win)
