I dont pay much attention to be honest until the World Champs come around but thats been no different since I was a kid.

I read today that the Crucible has two years left on its contract as the venue for the World Championships. After that it'll go to China. The global audience has and will increase but on the home front we'll have to do without our fortnight of snooker per year unless you're sky'd up or you have snooker TV or whatever's sure to come.

It still gets millions of viewers in the UK (which pisses over most sports), and the Crucible was sold out before the event even started. So it's not doing too bad for a dying sport.

Also It's not just China where it's massive, thanks to Eurosport, which covers the entire tour (over 20 tournaments), the popularity throughout Europe has gone through the roof. The German Masters is played in a 3000 seat venue, which is packed out all week.

But the interest will never be same in UK again I am sure of that. I used to watch everything as most people did my age – now I keep a close eye on worlds only and will tune in if O’Sullivan playing. That’s it.

Hendry raised a good point other day that all the advantages are with Judd Trump especially with him being young and single. I can understand fully why the family men don’t want to travel and do the full circuit. Their rankings will suffer as a result
