Canelo's Trainer: Mayweather Wants a Lower Weight - Boxing News

Please man give your head a shake. You need to think sometimes before you hit send whenever a subject is at hand that involves a fighter that you literally hate. You cant compare a battle worn water weighted Cotto to a 22 year old in his prime like Alvarez. And btw why are the Alvarez people considering Cotto at this point?

Floyd has publicly stated that he wants to stay at 147 and lets get serious here. Alvarez was 171 pounds at fight time against Trout and that's with 24 hours of rehydration. A few more hours and he would probably have weighed over 180. Floyd probably weighs 150 at fight time Perhaps he should fight Ward next.

Robinson weighed 147 for his first fight with Lamotta but Ray was a big welter and transferred to 160 seamlessly.

Leonard took the 154 title prior to his 3 year retirement and fight with Hagler and he to was a bigger welter. Speaking of Hagler he probably never weighed as much as Alvarez at fight time.

Weight manipulation today has grown leaps and bounds compared even to the eighties.

Lastly Floyd is the top dog, the biggest draw and the greatest fighter on the planet. Why should he cater to the demands of the man expected to take over his rein? Legacy? We all know that Floyds view of legacy is quite different then most. Nobody fights 3 times in 5 years if their concern was legacy driven.

People need to take his age into consideration also and the fact that Floyds a natural welter.

Having said that, leave the titles at home at fight at 150.

Good post, and the bolded part is the most telling statistic of all. Yeah, I understand Canelo's unwillingness to come down to 147.... but at the same time, Floyd at 154 is not fighting at his best weight, but rather playing into Canelo's wheelhouse.

What gets me, in all seriousness, is reading how Floyd needs Canelo more than Canelo needs Floyd. Really?? I mean, Canelo is a rising star and all that, but.... seriously? Floyd is the consensus p4p right now. His legacy is set. Why should he cave to Canelo's demands at this juncture?

Im not saying he should cave. Im just saying it looks like he is ducking him, like it looked like he was ducking Pacquiao. I dont think Canelo is in Floyds class and think Floyd beats him at either weight but if he is avoiding everyone that all the fans want to see it will affect his legacy. Looks like he is gonna fight Khan next year. He had the chance to fight Canelo to fight Khan. I actually think Khan has a better chance of beating him then Canelo but most people will see this as him taking an easier fight.

Everything to do with weight classes is bull shit. Im sure Floyd would take this at 154 if the weigh in was the day of the fight. Having a 20-30 pound weight advantage in the ring defeats the purpose of guys fighting at the same weight.
