If you guys think Mayorga has a future in MMA, you guys are crazy.

I've been a fan of both my whole life and will always love the boxing tradition/history. Although in my honest opinion, MMA is the full version of fighting. A boxer will always have a punchers chance but boxing looks one dimensional compare to MMA.

If other one dimensional fighters who are only good in one aspect of MMA can get in MMA, then a world champion in at least one martial art can make something of himself. He has proven toughness and the ability to beat world class oponents. Yes that was years ago but against someone with far more MMA experience than Mayorga, who actually teaches it, has his own MMA team, Mayorga managed to out tough him, get out of apparently ungetoutable holds and make him cry

If Mayorga was to take this as a new career path then he could be brought along slowly as fighters with no amateur back ground are in Boxing, like Chavez JR.
Hes already proved that its not going to be easy to make him submit and I think some "MMA fans" resent that.

You mean how James Toney got spank in 1 round by 40 year old former champ Randy Couture? Mayorga is not comparable to James Toney, nor is the bum he fought comparable to Randy Couture. BTW Mayorga was losing and got dq'ed.

In fairness to James Toney, at that weight he was probably unable to see his lower extremities, much less move them to avoid being taken down, and, once down, he was like a turtle on it's back.

Exactly, compared to the shape Toney was in, Mayorga was a greek god!

Id also bet that Mayorga has far better natural grappling ability than Toney. He used to be a gang leader and has machete scars on him. He fought proper in the street and it has toughened him right up. Toney came from a good neighbourhood with a good upbringing. Mayorga was in the dirty back streets of a third world country. Toneys toughness and persona is an act he puts on, whereas Mayorga had his attitude carved into him with machetes.

Also, Toney was thrown in against one of their top fighters, whereas Mayorga fought someone who only had a handfull of fights but was still vastly more experienced than Ricardo. He has showed promise. Regardless of whether a knee to the back of the ribs is illegal (iv seen elbows thrown to the same area) Mayorga still got out of a choke hold to do it.
