probably could've posted in the Last Movie watched thread, chose to post here instead

quickie reviews:

The Grandmasters is good... some of Wong Kar-wai's arthouse effects adds a touch of well arthouse to the film, nice costumes, nice sets... rumored that WKW trimmed 4 hrs of film into commercial 130 mins Hong Kong release. This movie doesn't have Donnie Yen-type fight scenes, but fights are dramatic with a mix of cool moves (opening fight vs Cung Le in rain and at night is hard to see at times but dramatic). Fight choreographer is the great Yuen Woo-piing (Matrix, Kill Bill, Charlie's Angels, loads more). Zhang Ziyi IMO stole the show. Tony Leung Chiu-wai is solid and good.

Jackie Chan's CZ12 aka Chinese Zodiac - action-packed... cool story, but we can see Jackie's age (59 yrs old!) in some scenes, I doubt if it's really him (sacrilege of me to say!) doing the fighting/stunts. Forgot which Bond movie had skydiving action sequence, CZ12's skydiving sequence outdoes the Bond scene 10x over. In the movie, his character is simply "JC". In IMDB, his character is listed as "Asian Hawk". Revisiting his character, the asian Indiana Jones from earlier movies, Armor of God and Operation Condor. Good movie for JC fans.
