I'll say this - When I want to show my non boxing fan friends how Mexicans fight I show them Marquez. He defines the country's fighting spirit.

Marquez has done much more than Canelo from a legacy perspective, but Canelo is more popular than Marquez. It has a lot to do with his looks.

Yeah excuse my typos but of course Mexicans respect Marquez more. Mexicans aint dummies when it comes to boxing.
Marquez shouldn't even be in these kind of arguments. I could be accused of being biased because he is my favourite fighter, but he didn't become my favourite fighter for no reason - it was due to his skill, heart, technique, ability to adapt and persevere. Alvarez might be the media darling but I guess that's about as important as Khan being the media darling over here - ie not very important to boxing fans.

So gives a shit about Marquez?
Canelo is young and has a lot of fight experience.
He's one for the future.
Marquez had his best night against Pacquiao and that's, in my book, the end for him. He should retire happy.
Also all the PEDs talk effects how much I like him if someone calls you a horse call them a jerk, if it happens again slap them, but if it happens a 3rd time maybe you should buy a saddle.(lucky number slevin).
Means there has to be some truth behind the numerous claims. Even if it isn't true it still effects his popularity.
