You mean like Rigondeaux? He was hyped from the beginning for his amateur career, and he turned out to be pretty good.
Oscar was hyped from the beginning, he turned out all right and a real cash cow.
Just because a fighter is well thought off, with outstanding potential and is brought along steadily and slowly does not mean there's reason to criticize.
I can't understand why success pisses so many of you off. I was down on Rigondeaux, but I had to change my mind when he was successful.

Compared to Marquez, Canelo is some lil kid whose nut hasn't even dropped. Dude hasn't done shit to even be mentioned in the same breath with somebody like Marquez..

Marquez is the greatest MExican fighter of all time...

To be fair both DLH and Rigo had won Olympic gold and that's not an easy thing to do at all, you need great boxing skills to win that gold.

Man? Fk'n Butterbean had a massive following too.

Marquez was being featured consitently on American airwaves 2 yrs into his career, and main eventing cards in Vegas by his 4th, and co maining Wide World of Sports with a young Mayweather late in his 5th. Just as Canelo did on a Mayweather undercard fresh out of Mexico...for practically the first time. That right there shows you the power of multi millionaire promotion and literally being marketed and groomed like a show pup. Marquez scraped and clawed to get his recongnition but the respect for his talent and skill was there all along. Canelo almost had visibility brought to him, plotted for him, on a platter. Besides, hes a freckle faced ginger from Mexico nicknamed Cinnamon ffs

Marquez is an ATG but mostly at the lower weights and he is near the end of his career. Alvarez is the future.

Who the fxck is Alvarez, compared to a real legend, Marquez?
The reason is because canelo is more of a threat to floyd compared to marquez.

Canelo is so overated but he is young, mexican and bigger than floyd.

The world needs another adversary for floyd after pacs two losses.

Canelo is the new pacman, but will do the blood tests and has golden boy backing.

Marquez is a legend but no threat to floyd and no way near his skill level.
Two losses? While I agree the pac floyd fight is too little too late I have to remind you that without a shadow of a doubt that Manny won against Bradley.
I dont want to take this thread in another direction fella but if you have an issue with pacs loss to bradley, speak to the judges.

Bottom line is marquez always gave pac problems and if pac had fought marquez after oscar none of this hype train stuff would have occured.

Canelo has racked up wins against blown up welterweights and only decent (very close) win was against trout.

Canelo is the biggest threat to mayweather and after he gets beaten and mattyse beats garcia they will make him the next canelo.

If marquez was a threat to mayweather, after the pac win the world would demand another showdown with floyd but everyone knows what happens the first time so no one mentioned it
Canelos last fight was against trout who is probably the next best 154 pounder. Mayweather just fought a blown up light weight in Guerrero Also in Marquez while being the "P4P king". Canelo has done this but he's still just a kid at 22 years old making his way up. He didn't cherry pick in his prime or reign as "best boxer ever". I believe that's a huge difference plus the 22 year old just agreed to come in at a lesser weight for the P4P king. Say what you want but Canelo is about to fight the best boxer on the planet and just fought the next best fighter in his division all that fighting blown up fighters can go out the window.

It should. But it won't. They will continue to make up shit just to hate on Alvarez.

Looks? If that was true, Marquez would be 1,000 times more popular. Canelo is butt ugly imo.

So gives a shit about Marquez?

Canelo is young and has a lot of fight experience.

    He's one for the future.

Marquez had his best night against Pacquiao and that's, in my book, the end for him. He should retire happy.

Also all the PEDs talk effects how much I like him if someone calls you a horse call them a jerk, if it happens again slap them, but if it happens a 3rd time maybe you should buy a saddle.(lucky number slevin).

Means there has to be some truth behind the numerous claims. Even if it isn't true it still effects his popularity.
