He's a warrior no doubt, would love to see him again. I don't think he's quite got the X factor that Gatti did though, not to many do. In his defence, he's hardly got the promotion behind him either. Lopez has been brought in as an opponent for every single big fight he's had, wheras Gatti was handled pretty well for the most part. If Arturo hadn't been a big draw he may well have become an opponent himself early on.

No not at all he doesn't carry anywhere near the one punch KO power Gatti had, also Gatti was more durable. An exciting fighter no doubt but there's only one Arturo Gatti.

No. Hes a free swinger with big balls and a heart but the airwaves are filled with guys similiar who never get the big names or press. He looked shakey last night even early..I don't mean heart wise etc but I think that weight roller coaster didn't do him any favors.

He should be fighting at 140.

Exactly yeh. The Ortiz was a jump in weight to begin with, the Alvarez was just a matter of time honestly. Then to come down against a power house in Maidana? Three huge jumps in class ta boot. Kid needs an even playin field to level off and hopefully rebuild some momentum. Nobody wants just be a "game & gutsy" opponent.

He's been matched ridiculously tough in his last three fights and he's definitely a 140 pounder. However the three fights have made his name and he was mainly responsible for the sellout crowd on Saturday. That card sold more tickets than Rafa Izzy 3 which was at the same venue.

He's now got three things in his favour.

He's made a reputation as a great fighter to watch and will sell tickets because of this.

He can go back to 140, fight somebody he can beat and look good against and then Golden Boy can carefully manage him at 140 for their mutual benefit.

Golden Boy say that they're stealing from UFC now in that they're not worried if fighters have losses so long as they're in competitive exciting fights that people want to watch and networks want to buy. This is all good news for guys like Lopez. I don't think he'll ever measure up to Gatti but he'll be in a bunch of memorable fights and make some money in the rest of his career compared to how it could have gone.

Face it, who looks to have the best prospects for a decent future career if not winning much in the way of titles, Lopez or Gamboa?

Lopez needs to be handled right because he will be retired very quickly as he is being set up to fail and lose. He is no Gatti either.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
