He struggled with Cano and he was stopped by Hatton and Khan, and lost to Cotto. At this point, in my opinion, Paulie signed up for this fight for the pay check. He's making $1.25M.

By the way, is it me or is paying Broner $1.5M to face Paulie just completely ridiculous? To put it in perspective, Cano made $150k for his fight against Paulie. Cano made 10% Broner's pay check for facing the same guy. It's not like the fight is in Cincinnati so there is no way Broner is influencing ticket sales to such an extent that it makes it worth it to pay him that much money to face Paulie.

Broner will stop Paulie and he will do it in devastating fashion. Let's just not get all up in arms about it when it happens. This is not a historic, career-defining win. Other than the fact that it is at 147, it is even a step back from DeMarco. Frankly, it's a joke of a "big fight." I'm a little disturbed that people are buying into its hype. The under card looks decent enough though.

Sure, anyone has a "shot". But these guys are the epitome of rushing in two different directions career wise. Paulie is as war torn, been there-done that-fought him as they come but was beat up in his last fight. Broner, honestly, hasn't done shit thats impressed me enough to go hysterical. Beating up Paulie won't do it either but it will manage him a trinket and put the in some fans. Its a logical move for Broner but its literally a showcase for a fresher, younger, bigger, faster and massivly pushed-hyped new network glory boy. I seriously don't see Broner as more talented but he of course all of those.

This a good pay day for Paulie, he is the weakest of the welter-weight Champs, Broner should
win this one Paulie is no puncher.
If Broner wins will he stay at welter,! can't see it myself he may move back down in weight.

Paulie barely scrapes wins now and will get beat by Broner.

I put $100 on Paulie to win $1000.

Not that I'm super confident in Paulie winning, but I figured I'd throw some money on him based on a number of factors/possibilities.

    1) Jumping two weight divisions is a big leap, even if it is against a flower-puncher like Paulie.

    2) The added bulk might slow Broner down, or maybe the fact that he only has to be under 147 might make him under train.

    3) He hasn't faced a class opponent with the style that Paulie has.

yikes lol.. If you have the money to play with then good luck, but I'd sooner put $1000 on Broner in order to make 25 cents myself. The kiss of death from a betting perspective is that even if Paulie actually manages to earn a close decision(which is such a long shot in the first place) he won't get it.

I eat crow. Paulie did much better than I expected. Sorry I doubted him the way I did. Broner is not as good as made out to be. I got caught up in the hype for a second there. I'll reign in my views on him. Good, but not great. He's only 23, and still a work in progress.

I agree but nor should it be underplayed. It’s a decent win against a kind of gatekeeper with a trinket. But should Broner win like many of us think he should Paulie should not be written off as some scrub which is already being hinted at. When boxers are hated like Broner things can go just as far the other way. For example prior to Demarco many over the boxing web were suggesting Demarco could win and some were sure of it. After he got smoked the win by Broner was no big deal.

Paulie's last fight was an undercard fight. This is a main event. Broner will no doubt have a contract minimum of over a million and Paulie has been offered more than GBP would pay him for any other fight so that he gives Broner the belt opportunity.

They're hoping Paulie in a big fight plus Broner's growing shall we say notoriety is going to sell lots of tickets and Broner already attracts main event TV money so they should make money and add value to their Broner product.
