    This fight was just...strange

    Definitely makes you think....

Fights like this, Byrd-Williamson, Klitschko-Ibragimov and countless others is why I wouldn't mind fighters being penalized a portion of their purse for lack of action. Be it from Promoters, Commisssions, or Networks. I believe Pride FC would issue a "yellow" card (10% purse reduction) to fighters for a lack of action.

Then again...if a guy is paid 2-3 times his total purse to throw a fight...a 10-20% reduction is no big deal.

The last time I experienced that sinking feeling I was watching the first Ali/Spinks fight.

Cant quite figure out the monetary gain for Banks which is a little confusing unlike when Lamotta tanked out against Fox. He was guaranteed a middleweight title shot that he deserved legitimately but was not going to get. Shit I would have done the same.

With Banks it might have been as simple as not wanting to be in the position of being his fighters mandatory. Now nobody would expect them to fight but the spin when it was declared they would not would further indict the division.
