My father taught me how to box. He was an accomplished writer (i.e., novelist and journalist), and fought professionally in the 20s. I started at the Panther Boys Club in Ft. Worth, Texas, but the Golden Gloves was extremely competitive, and I did not box again until college, and that was intramurals at the University of Washington. There has aways been a fascination with the sport; I was better in football, baseball and field events in track though. Lastly, I was never shot five times, and I served in the Army for three years in a combat unit! I have three grown children and ten grandchildren. They thinlk, not fight (my son is a major in the Army, a Ranger however).
