The referee, George Latka, also worked the Davy Moore/Sugar Ramos fight at Dodger Stadium in which Moore was killed. He later owned a bar in Orange County, down by Huntington Beach High School (where all the girls look like Britney Spears). I was there in 1988 several times and could drive you there, but don't recall the streets. Mr Latka has since died.

Lopez had a chin that put Margarito to shame, boxing skills of Delahoya, and punching power that was almost as good as Tito Trinidad but his downfall was that he had the mental makeup of Zab Judah.. If he dedicated himself to the sport 100%, he could have went down as one of the Mexican greats..

There was never anything wrong with Lopez mental makeup. He just never cared much for boxing. To him it was always just a job. He did it cuz it paid him more than any regular 9 to 5. He never loved it. He loved surfing. But not boxing
