What held him back, I think, was a tendency to get lazy in fights and stop throwing punches. That is my memory but I haven't seen him fight or thought about him in years. looking at his record it kind of suprises me that he beat Mrvin mack- I wouldn't have thought he'd beat a tough, busy guy like that, moving up in weight.
Spot on, I think Tommy edged it, but I am bias! Kinchen was pretty flaky and as you suggest after a hot start to his career, he was brought in as cannon fodder for Hearns. And got shots at Williams and Hill because of that performance. Hill flattening him a round was a bit of a stunner...
