Dempsey did refuse to fight blacks when he was champ, and was open about his disdain for them. I'm pretty sure he never fought a single one, it's hardly bullshit to say so. Of course it may have been that nobody would have paid him accordingly either, most people concerned didn't want to see a black guy fight at the top level in those days
