Sure, the three Americans mentioned, (i.e., Brewster, Peter and Brock) would be quite worthy opponents for Maskaev, but aren't we talking about those "non-Americans?"
Mate just becuse Maskaev lives in the US and has a passport doesn't make him American. I think most Americans would rather not root for anybody than support a Khazakstani.
I guess you think Abu Hamza, the wacko guy with a hook for a hand is British?
Oleg Makaev is an American citizen who lives on Staten Island with his lovely wife and four kids whom he says are getting a "good" education. He also boasts his wife has a good job. He is soft spoken and speaks with a distinct accent which is not troublesome. Now that is All-American. Let me repeat ALL-AMERICAN!!!!
Yes I undestand the technocalities of him being a US citizen but you are completely deluding yourself if you think the US public are going to root for him as one of their own.
To the American public at large he is Russian, and yes I know he's from Khazakstan not Russia as well
When Lennox Lewis decided to ditch Canada once he turned pro and reassumed his British identity the British public never accepted him even though he was by far the greatest heavyweight ever to represent our country.
When he fought Gary Mason, and even more so when he faced Bruno virtually the entire nation was behind his opponents.
The majority of sports fans, myself included are proud patriots and will never take to a foreigner over a born and bred Brit in a hundred years.
I can think of only one exception in the whole history of the world and that is Arnold Schwarzzenegger.
You can tell keep telling yourself that Oleg is an American citizen until you are blue in the face but you are never going to get the American public to ever think of him as anything other than Russian.
Am I right or am I right?
