Re: The Filipino Flash.. the most gifted fighter since Roy Jones
A few points... I agree that Nonito is gifted. He counters very well and can punch in between punches if he chooses to. Something like that short chopping shot that dropped Darchinyan was poetry. He has the talent to be a lot of great fighters if he hones those skills. Him fighting in a lower weight class made it a lot easier to look that good. Since he's come up, it's not entirely as easy as walking guys down and countering their shots. Also just my opinion but, i think garcia is the wrong trainer for him. He needs a trainer that can keep his defense sharp and maximize his speed and technique. He's eaten more jabs and brawled more than he ever has. Its taking the edge off of his skillset. Most gifted fighter since Roy Jones... Sorry cant agree with that one. Not saying he doesnt have skill, he clearly does. Until he's using it in every fight and showing why he is in a different class, it's less of a factor. Fighting down to your opponents level, counting on your power to eventually catch up to your opponent is poor planning and as we saw, after Rigo got up Donaire allowed him to regain his confidence and composure. As far as being more talented than pac, I'll agree in terms of potential. Pac is is fierce, coached well, trained to peak condition and fearless. The problem is he is rather predictable and without roach, he's not as good. So in terms of potential and boxing IQ, i'd give an edge to Donaire. The problem there is this... potential doesn't get you much outside of a spot on the P4P list. Pac was an average fighter that fought so far above what his potential is/was. Donaire is a guy that doesnt see himself as great and the fans do... that transfers to the application. Pac built a long cabin with a swiss army knife...Donaire is carving out a toothpick with a fully stocked toolbox at this point. I see Nonitos potential, as do you and many others... till he see's it... we may never witness it.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.
