I've been a big Mayorga fan for a decade now, but one thing that irks me about his promoting the fight is that he immediately apologizes and essentially begs for forgiveness from his opponent after the match, recanting all the shit he talked.

After the first time or two he does that, you learn that everything he says before the fight is just total bullshit.

He didn't seem to be to apologetic to Vernon Forrest or Corey Spinks, he told Forrest that he was going to take his wife back to Nicaragua and make her his slave
, he told Spinks that he was going to reunite him with his dead mother which is completely past the line

He seemed to be apologetic towards Vargas and Oscar after their fights but his actions were unforgivable, bitch smacking Vargas in front of his wife and kids was insane, smacking De La hoya in back of the head and then telling him that he was going to drink the warm milk out of his wife's tits was mind boggling.

But my all-time most bizarre moment from Mayorga was in the first Forrest fight when in his corner " wow that n****r hits hard ", the HBO translator was quick on his feet and replaced the N word with black guy.
    I remember that well.

And his trainer told Mayorga "That was gooood!"

    Sagely advice.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"

The Obvious for me: Ali- but Mayweather of the most recent era.

He changed his moniker from Pretty Boy to Money May then claimed others did it, no they didn't.
He prefaced his popularity by taking on fighters who already had massive followings and built on it. DLH, Hatton, Marquez, Alvarez & of course Pacman
He often used Cinco De Mayo as a likely time to fight.
Timed his -better late than never meeting with Mosley-after he trounced Margarito. They both hit all the late night talk show circuits fanning the interest- that put the PPV numbers over the million mark.
He invested $ into advertising with months in between to let them 'marinate' so to speak.

    My GOAT self-Promoters
    1. Ali (he wrote the book)
    2. Tyson - his style sold itself.
    3. Mayweather (even though me made the most money- the road was paved by Ali, Tyson & Leonard. DLH gave him his 1st BIG numbers which meant he had fought for 11 years to get that fame.)
    4. Ray Leonard -(had star appeal & fought in a great era )
    5. Manny Pacquaio -his style sold itself.

On Mayorga-He definitely could tick off his foes by talking bad about them. I guess I would say he had the ultimate bad boy image. The closest to him IMO would've been Jorge Luis Gonzalez- his undefeated record, size & amateur record wins over Bowe was capped off with their press conferences. But the whooping Bowe put on him shrunk him down to size

So he doesn't compare to Mayorga!

Tyson Fury must be up there with the best who else can be as good a boxer as he is and still be able to promote himself up, sing, wear the most outlandish clothes, and do some wrestling to get himself known around the world?

Yeah Fury is rare in that he actually is a bit funny. Most try to hard & fail. Plus he looks way too goofy and a funny physique, one can't but help to tune in and see if he an actually box.
    Well at that!

Haye deserves a mention for talking himself into contentions @ HW. What a sell-job that was.
