Some Puerto Rican in Philly doesn't have any of those selling points which is why his market rate for his second fight is a couple of thousand dollars. It's just his tough fucking luck for not being born Chinese and Olympic champion level at boxing.
Its understandable but in the bigger picture, one star on Chinese tv will not do well for Hbo and its future if this is Arums brain child. The future of boxing and talent ain't coming from China. I didn't even realize the card was being televised Stateside, and 4pm same day tape can't do big ratings.
Arum did the first Zou show international TV broadcast as a Top Rank production. He flew George Foreman and another name or two in to do commentary and basically gave it to HBO for free just so they'd show it, and even then they only showed it on HBO2. He did that to keep them on board for when he did his first Manny PPV from Macau -- I'm guessing they get these other shows for buttons too, he just wants HBO to show his Manny PPVs.

In the meantime he's doing deals in China. He's got some deal going where Chinese peeps can watch the Manny card on their phones or laptops for five dollars amongst others. The casinos in Macau did huge business with the Zou fights.

Arum is now claiming that Floyd could fight Manny there next and his earnings would dwarf the Canelo earnings. That remains to be seen but Macau and possibly Singapore are going to become players in the fight business at some point.

It looks like Zou is pretty shit and will never amount to much. Just imagine though that the Chinese produce a popular fighter in the future who is a Chinese John Duddy. A come forward guy with limited skills and the inability to avoid a single head shot, but bone from the neck up so it doesn't matter.

They'd have that guy in against a string of US club fighters. People who he could look good coming forward against and landing. They'd eventually graduate him to defensive counterpunching guys. So long as Chinese Duddy kept coming forward and throwing punches even though he was getting his brain turned to mush the judges and the Chinese TV commentators would be saying he was winning. As long as he was making big TV and casino money everybody would be happy and even if he was eating his meals through a straw they'd still be sending him back out there.

Now it's eminently possible we'll see a Chinese Duddy at somne point in the future and if China/Macau is the goldmine Arum says it is then it's easily possible that he could be the highest-paid fighter in the world.

Pac-Rios is happening primetime for HBO/America, unlike the Zou card, the Chinese have to watch this at 9-10am

If Chinese TV and Macau casinos start producing more money from fights than Vegas then Americans will be watching the world's biggest fights in future live on Saturday mornings.

If Ward fought Golovkin again most would root for Golovkin.

It's a peculiar self hate, if JMM fought Manny in Mexico city you wouldn't see Mexicans saying I hope Manny knocks him out.
That's because most Mexicans probably relate to and indentify with Marquez as one of their countrymen. Floyd Mayweather is a slimeball no matter where he's from and that's why people don't root for him, he doesn't want them to. Andre Ward is a fair case, except he's not exciting to watch and has terrible promotion. It's really not as "peculiar" as you like to think.
Can you name one current American boxer who fans cheer? I guess you could say americans have no pride but I can remember when Americans liked American boxers, it's peculiar because other countries cheer assholes.
That doesn't really make sense. Floyd is the most popular fighter in America (probably the world) - unless you believe everyone buys his fights hoping he loses, which is ridiculous.

Broner is the new American hope already being paid millions.

They're arseholes but clearly loved by the general American boxing fan.
I think you would be surprised at how hated Floyd is in the USA.
Well the figures don't say that. For sure he's a polarising figure but it's predominantly Americans that have made him the biggest PPV seller in history and highest earning sportsman on the planet. He has over 4 million twitter followers, which is rockstar numbers for effs sake, and dwarfs any other boxer.

Maybe you're right though - The four million twitter followers all hate him and the 10 million PPV buyers, over the past several years, all did so to watch him lose
If you haven't seen how ESPN treats Floyd you would be disgusted, they called him a coward even did a chicken dance about him. Remember boxing is a niche sport in the usa a lot of people watch floyd to see the best and watch him lose.

That won't, the pay per view system in the USA generates to much money and elite American fighters are not going to China.

Jesus Garcia is a retard. Zou got 10 millions views, how could he deserve less then 500k for that. Looks like Angels dying for a reason to pull Danny out.

I think it would be hard for you to understand, it would be like if a British promoter told Froch go fuck himself than put Zou on TV, I want Ward on HBO not Zou.

If Ward attracted 300 million viewers he would be getting TV time and making a shit load more then 500k. Froch attracts viewers so your comparison is stupid.

It also would never happen in Britain because British fans support (well at least watch) there World champions. In America you dont seem to get that for some reason.

No, Angel is racist but he doesn't hate like I think he'll call a black person the N-word but than he wouldn't attack them or even treat them different, racism in the USA is so complex.

    *Who isn't alittle racist?
