Barker vs Geale FOTY

I cant recall any fighter ever getting up from a body shot like that and getting up to fight out of the round.

Neither can I recall such a great weekend of quality punch ups from FNF through Saturday evening. Truly a weekend that justified the bandwidth.

Here's my fight of the year to date.

Incredible fight, but apparently 2 judges gave Barker the 12th round, which in turn gave him the fight. I didn't keep a scorecard prior to that, but a monkey could tell you Geale won the 12th. Kind of shady imo.

I had it even after 9 w/the 10/8 and made it a best out of 3. I leaned to Barker giving him 10 and 11 albeit close rds but thought Geale got the 12th. I wondered about the judges as Barker closed the round.

Yeah that's what I just saw. I don't doubt Barker deserved the nod, but the fact remains that 2 judges giving him the 12th is absurd, and that's the only reason the cards went to him.

I hear ya. I think the right guy won so that would mean they got it wrong before rd 12. I had Barker winning w/o round 12. Deep down I was expecting a draw.

When I rewatched the fight I didn't think Geale won the 12th round as big as I originally thought, he still won it mind.

Another theory could be - the judge mixed up who the fighters were as Eddie Cotton did at one point and as Roy did a hundred times for HBO

I know what you said dude, but it WAS NOT the deciding factor. Just because it was the 12th and final round doesn't make it the deciding factor, all 12 rounds have to be judged and any 1 round, be it round 1 or round 12 being scored wrong could be deemed the deciding factor.

Barker's effort after the knockdown was outstanding, taking a body shot like that and continuing shows a lot of heart, he actually improved after the wind was taken out of him. But the judging of the final round is disgraceful.

I think Darren Barker was the only person looking at that who didn't think the fight was over right there. That almost ripped him in two. Great finish to that round.

I knew this was gonna happen... I thought this was a fight I could afford to miss, but it ended up like Gatti/Ward, huh??
