Wednesday are 10 years older than us, they played at Bramall lane before us. They were made up of Pork Butchers living on the North of Sheffield. Plus they had Wednesday of, thats when they played, so the name Pigs .

We were a cricket team at first. To keep fit in winter they played football, and as Scrap says because they played on Wednesdays they became Sheffield Wednesday. The Blunts have been trying to catch up ever since.

Tony Bellews the Man for That, Big Evertonian. Oh it was the Sheffield United CC, thats why United are called United, also Sheffield FC were the 1st to use it. Thats a clue to the other question 2 teams turning out in the same strip. It was Yorkshire v Surrey at Cricket .
