I have a black lab as well. Her name is Kimberly and she is about 60-65 pounds, not real big.She is very smart ( she has taught me many tricks) but she isn't the kind of dog that does much unless it involves getting somebody to rub her stomach.

Can she open a door like my dog used to be able to?

Yes. She opens the bathroom doors all the time and she can open the gate in the yard faster than I can. I'm pretty sure she can talk, but won't because she doesn't think I'm smart enough to carry on a conversation.
