Scotch is a type of whiskey, and cognac is a type of brandy. As was said if you can't tell them(whiskey and brandy) apart there is something wrong with your taste buds. Whiskey is more like wine than most hard liquors, because it will age in the barrel and has a more complicated fermenting process, so there's more of a taste for it. I don't have it so much myself. Single malts mean its the same batch of grain in the same barrel usually aged longer, as opposed to cheap mixed whiskeys which is a big shitmix. For the hangover thing VC is right as well, something like Grey goose or Belvedere chilled with just a splash of something is nice and you don't feel it so much.

If you want to drink whiskey neat bourbon has a much nicer flavour than Rye or Scotch for sure imo. I've never tried any of those VC, but knob creek and wild turkey are both at least decent to me. Scotch is way to smoky or something, I cant stand the stuff.

    I'm really into whiskey though!

I give you my top 3 whiskeys, All of them comes in difference years and so on.
The whisky don't need to be better just because it's old though. just more expensive....
And if you wanna drink "hard liquor" dont go out and buy a jack Daniel's, It's pure shit, you might need to add a extra few bux for a quality bottle. but it's worth it. And go buy you a set of whiskey rocks, if it's really strong add a little bit of water, you will get used to it.

otherwise, give up after a few tries go out buy yourself a few breezers, ladies like those drinks and sharing is caring

    1: Talisker
    2: Tullibardine
    3: Jameson

Would not say i'm an expert though but this is what i would say about it

Knob Creek is a good bourbon. Wild Turkey is ok but it is starting to scratch the bottom of the barrel for my snobbish pallet. WT does do a "Rare Breed" top shelf whiskey that is good stuff.

I don't like hard liquor. I don't like the taste of excessively strong alcohol. I can drink it, but would rather not. Beer is the only alcohol I will touch these days and that is plenty.
