Heard they said they wanted Haye to be sparring this late because they were worried he would not be sharp and show ring rust as he had only fought 5 rounds in over a year. It sounds plausible.

Yes they want the fight in January as Froch and Khan may have the November and December dates.

as toney bellew was explaining on saturday night, its not unusual for fighters to spar this close to fights, some even spar in fight week

he also said to get a cut whilst wearing a head gaurd is a freak event

Also, just to point out, even if this happened two or three weeks before the fight it would have been way too late anyway. So really it makes no difference that it was only a week before.

Beanz its all well and good finding other examples , but all those other fights were subject to theatrical makeup or the trainer cutting them.
