Martinez looked terrible last time out. The phrase "growing old overnight" is often used but seldom witnessed. Getting injured in every fight and his legs looked gone even in the Chavez fight. He started boxing late in life and I think his cycling career has maybe come back to haunt him. I'm not sure that he gets past Cotto should it occur.

What I find amazing is that if you watch round 12 of the Martinez-Junior fight, you see that Martinez started getting into a groove at the end of the round. Junior actually tired out after dominating Martinez in the first part of the round. What a great showing of heart by the champion.

Canelo is very comfortable at making the light middleweight limit so he will not venture up to middleweight just yet. He has a few more years at light middleweight.

If Martinez has knee issues cycling is the best way to improve it.

I don't think Alvarez has that raging desire in his gut to the legs of Martinez. Martinez may be showing some holes but they are not big enough for Canelo to climb through, no way. Too big, too mobile and too Martinez. You ease up and play along with Mayweather, I kinda get that, but Trout..I'll never understand what he thinking there.

I get all that but disagree, as I personally think Martinez is half shot to pieces and may well show further decline whenever he fights again. Would expect Trout to out "Martinez" Martinez to be honest And I really liked Sergio a few years back.

Sergio is not that shot that a light middle could beat him. Even with one leg he beats Canelo.

Sergio is not that shot that a light middle could beat him. Even with one leg he beats Canelo.
Sergio is a small middleweight and probably weighs about the same as Alvarez on fight night. He's also claimed that he can make 154 easy over the last few years. I just dont see size as really a factor here.

Ftr I'm not saying the man is shot but I think his legs could be. Whether its lactic acid issues or muscle depletion. It happens. Leonard had no legs left after the 12th in the Hagler fight but he was not shot obviously as a fighter.

I addition I think Alvarez learned more in the loss to Floyd then most likely all the fights that came before it. I just dont see this as a mismatch at all at this stage and believe Martinez will continue to slide. Not everybody continue at close to 40 like Moore or Hopkins. Its all for not though because the chances of this fight happening in the present climate is slim to none and slim's vanished.

I just think the 'shot' talk is overblown particularly with a Martinez. Older, careless in spots and off major surgery..yes. But shot up and there to roll over, I just don't buy it. Dude isn't a kid but shot fighters don't get off the deck and close out rounds strong or late portions of fights. Martinez loose and mobile style is the first to lend itself to that thinking and while its understandable I think he still has some surprise left in him.
