I don't understand the bit where he said HBO refused to promote a fight between him and Joey Spina becasue it would be a mismatch?

Who did they think would get slaughtered?

    Spina or Manfredo?

well, seein as though the statement was givin by manfredo, im guessing he means to say he would slaughter spina. What manfredo needs to know however, is as long as he is fighting in Rhode island. Spina is just a big a draw, as manfredo. And manfredo, could offer the same money to any other undefeated prospect (with a minor wbc belt) and they would reject the offer too. Its easy to offer someone peanuts and say " HEY, he didnt take the fight. Not my problem."

Again, i hope to see peter manfredo do well in the division, because i love local fighters. But this is gettin old.

cc for the read.. He's been saying "I'm gonna run through all the contenders", after beating Brinkley with a lucky body shot after getting schooled the whole fight(good shot, though")Spina continued, "I'll take whatever they an throw @ me"

Spina took a fight against Pina for 10g why wouldnt he take a fight against Manfredo for 35g? Dont know what Spina gets for his fights but they offered him 3 times what he got against an old opponent. What else should they do? They cant just throw money at him till he takes it. In Rhode Island Spina may draw as much as Manfredo but I would think on a national level he is not close (for TV), so Manfredo would get the bigger in their fight.

    Two different fights....
im sure 10g's for the pina fight under the tent in in cape code was a better percentage than what manfredo was offering for a sold out Dunkin donuts center. %=everything.

if someone paid me 5 bucks to go up a flight of stairs id do it, but i wont take $100 to climb mt washington. Yea 100 bucks is a big difference but, is it worth it?

This fight would will be telivised. Spina vs pina was on local channels on certain cable providers. Manfredo vs spina would be on ESPN at the least.

Its obvious that manfredo would be tougher opposition (bigger risk=bigger payday), a win for either would push them right up the rankings for a belt possibility. manfredo being rated 14th, and spina rated 16th, this fight would be career defining for both fighters.

Being at the dunkin donuts center in providence, doing alittle work there as well, i know HOW many people can go there, and the profits from that place filling up. $35,000 would not be a fair share, honestly.

If this was outside of new england, i could see manfredo saying,"Hey, im the contender guy, im the name on this card. Not you." But we are in Providence Rhode island. Where both grew up, both these kids can fill a place for a fight. Manfredo has the contender, spina has an undefeated record, with two (i know, not major, one is a wbc belt however) belts.

So if you ask me, money aint right, and i dont blame em.

But it will happen, eventually, it will happen. And it will be a hellova fight. Goodluck 2 both men and their careers

i disagree, Manfredo draws much more than Spina in Rhode Island. Manfredo >>>> Spina

I'll be there on the 14th.

You make some good points but I would disagree that sense it would be on espn Manfredo would still be entitled to a higher percentage, because the TV audience will tuning in for him and not Spina. cc thanks for the knowledge.

buff your right, if it went on tv, more would be watching for manfredo, and thats where manfredo can make his case about getting a higher percentage than spina. But the money on the dunkin donuts center alone, should be way more than 35k for spina. just sayin what they were offering to spina, sounds good, compared to what spina has made, but the amount that place can bring in is no where fair to cut spina 35k.
