Makes sense and is still decent money with the added legacy. Alvarez really has not beaten anybody. Oh I'm sure the take would be huge but Cotto would be fighting in Alvarez a younger stronger version of himself. I'm also sure that thee resident problem will be quite sickened by this comparison. It was a solid showing but I'd like to see Cotto, more so his people, keep a level head and rebuild steady at 154. At least another step before he thinks of a Alvarez...frankly Alvarez needs to reboot also. Cotto did exactly as he should have vs a slow starter with a leaky defense and a willingness to fight fire with fire but no way is he can he climb in a time warp and erase the wear and years. I love Cotto but people, chill. This fight is the perfect example why aggressive fighters are always over rated and boxers under rated. Aggressive fighters look great against inferior competition. I'll give you an example, Floyd is the best fighter in the world, does anyone think he would have dismantled Rodriguez in 3?

Physically Cotto looked great

Cotto had made serious strides on defense, I'm not sure if it was the lack of respect for the opponent or how Roach completely ignores any work on defense but Cottos defense looked awful. If he had been in with a person fighting back he would have taken serious punishment because he was wide open.

My prediction
Cotto looks great unless he steps back up. If he steps up the competition he will look great for a few rounds but the typical Roach disregard for D will cost him. Cotto isn't durable enough for that. He'll start feeling the shots by round 4, slow the attack down and be in survival mode by round 9

I don't say this not to diss Cotto, he's a great champion who I have great respect for. But we've seen this rebirth meme played out a thousand times in boxing to sell the exciting fighters. It doesn't pan out, in the end they are what they are except more shop worn.
