Roach seems keen for Martinez and legacy wise it will be a good
Move for Cotto. Either fight will be exciting though.

Makes sense and is still decent money with the added legacy. Alvarez really has not beaten anybody. Oh I'm sure the take would be huge but Cotto would be fighting in Alvarez a younger stronger version of himself. I'm also sure that thee resident problem will be quite sickened by this comparison. Frankly, I could give a shit. Tax man gets less coin with Martinez and he does something special.

It was a solid showing but I'd like to see Cotto, more so his people, keep a level head and rebuild steady at 154. At least another step before he thinks of a Alvarez...frankly Alvarez needs to reboot also. Cotto did exactly as he should have vs a slow starter with a leaky defense and a willingness to fight fire with fire but no way is he can he climb in a time warp and erase the wear and years. I think the Martinez thinking is a bridge too far for him, maybe a Trout rematch. Molina has a trinket that might make a good door prize is he tied to Showtime?

I love Cotto but people, chill. This fight is the perfect example why aggressive fighters are always over rated and boxers under rated. Aggressive fighters look great against inferior competition. I'll give you an example, Floyd is the best fighter in the world, does anyone think he would have dismantled Rodriguez in 3?

    The good
They had a good gameplan for this fight.
Cotto got back to his bread and butter
    Physically Cotto looked great

    The bad
Cotto had made serious strides on defense, I'm not sure if it was the lack of respect for the opponent or how Roach completely ignores any work on defense but Cottos defense looked awful. If he had been in with a person fighting back he would have taken serious punishment because he was wide open.

    My prediction
Cotto looks great unless he steps back up. If he steps up the competition he will look great for a few rounds but the typical Roach disregard for D will cost him. Cotto isn't durable enough for that. He'll start feeling the shots by round 4, slow the attack down and be in survival mode by round 9

I don't say this not to diss Cotto, he's a great champion who I have great respect for. But we've seen this rebirth meme played out a thousand times in boxing to sell the exciting fighters. It doesn't pan out, in the end they are what they are except more shop worn.

Nonsense thread title. It was an early stoppage against someone he should be stopping. How many rebirths can one man need, maybe they aren't rebirths but carefully managed comebacks. This was just step one in one of those. It's a rebirth if he beats the top guys, not people like this.

Pacman retired margarito by beating it out of him and destroying his eye in the process..

Cotto fought a shell of margarito and still fought scared, even trying to fight him at a cw of 151. Thats a bitch move.

History only remembers what fighters accomplished in their primes when they were at their absolute best and margo took cotto's virginity..

A prime margarito made a prime cotto get on his knees and quit.. thats a fact

that's why every sports writer acknowledges that after being found out as a cheat Margarito deserves a asterisk next to his well entire record, especially the Cotto fight where EVERY major sports writer basically believes he cheated

the real fact is that he only won one fight after being exposed as a fraud and a cheat and that was against a bum, that's a real FACT, and the eye shouldn't have stopped his ability to "pressure" Cotto which he couldn't because he was outboxed, outslugged, and even out muscled when Cotto pressured him and pushed Margarito's pussy ass into the ropes to pound on him, stopping the whiney bitch a round earlier than Margarito could even with the aid of loaded gloves hahaha, what's the last fight on Margarito's record? why didn't he go on with his little comeback bout as he stated? because the bitch was exposed and now has nightmares of the ass whooping he suffered against Cotto, that's why he'd rather work in his little taco cart haha

you say that Margarito made Cotto "quit" in their first fight, Cotto made the bitch QUIT HIS CAREER HAHAHAHA
