I thought about going a couple of years ago cause a mate was teaching English in Moscow, but I never got the money together to do it. He told me you have to take a HIV test before you even get a visa, although what he says is not 100% reliable.

Like Miles, I'd love to do the trans-siberian, over the Caucasus Mountains and over into Mongolia. Side trip up to Ulan Baatar and then on to China for a box of Chow Mein.

Something to save up for I guess.

4 of my mates went to Russia just a couple months ago to climb Europe's highest mountain (can't be arsed to Google what it's called). Took them 10 days to do it, they spent 19 days total in Russia and said it was fucking mental.

They drank shit loads of Vodka, got some tattoos done in Russian and basically loved every minute of it. One of my mates has traveled the world including the likes of South America. He told me it's the only place where he felt like there absolutely were no rules, almost lawless. You can do what the fuck you like and then bribe your way out of it.
