I am surprised by the number who thought Alvarado would win this fight. I thought Provodnikov would win it by wearing down Alvarado. I have to admit, though, I knew more about Provodnikov than I did about Alvarado. Alvarado is the bigger man and landed some good shots but Ruslan was more determined. I have to give it to Mike. He has probably more single shot power than Ruslan and appeared to buckle Ruslan in about round 3. But give credit where credit is due. Ruslan comes from a small village in Siberia to win the WBO title. Can you imagine how tough this is to do? No fan base, no promoter helping him. It was all will and belief in himself. Quite a story.

Personally I thought Alvarado would turn the fight into his second fight with Rios. I knew it wouldn't be an easy fight but I did think Alvarado would take it. For Alvarado to not come out of his corner is quite a testament to Prod. Alvarado is a tough SOB. In the after fight interview when Alvarodo said he was concerned about his health you know he was hurting bad. Prod was better in this fight than he was against Bradley and I think we will see him continue to improve. Hats off to Prod but I'm still bummed about Mike losing, especially in his hometown. Mike seemed like the happiest guy on the planet on his way into the ring.

Saw it going the same way with Alvarado coming out on top.

During the fight, I got concerned when I heard them say Alvardo had stated he believed Rios to be a bigger puncher than Providnikov going into the fight.

That is clearly not true and Alvardo should have known better. He probably did n was just talking.

Terrific output by the lil' Rock (as in Marciano not Balboa) Alvarado rehydrating to over 18 pounds the weight class did him NO good at all. He was probably in shape at 151 but his teams failure to understand that rehydrating from 139.5 to 157.9 takes you out of condition. The body shots took their toll more than anything lil' Rock threw!
This lil' Rock has very good side to side head movement as he attacks he does need to use his knees abit more for a straight drop slip to be able to come up punching but he is learning. His side step to the right to throw his hook is predictable but no one is picking up on it yet!
Two second tier talents who's mental abilities surpass the top tier guys in todays boxing.
Congrates to both and its true that Alvarado needs to take time out and be more selective when choosing an opponent. I think a good mover who boxes well should be in his future and its time to avoid the swarmers who can punch. He's proven his willingness but its time to show some intelligence in picking opponents. He can still have exciting fights without taking punishment. Ray

Prov should have a fight with Garcia, matthysse or Broner, all would be good to watch.

I think that is exactly what you would see. Rios would get reckless and get whooped. Prod is becoming a smart fighter. Not their yet but on the way
