Seems like Fenech may have made the biggest error in judgement, this Warton promoter must have talked him into it somehow to cut his losses. Surely they(Mosley, Fenech and co) would have known that sales were crap though, must be more to the story.

Yeah but when you put it all together its starting to stink a little on Shanes part and I hate to say that because I really like him and gave up on Mundine years ago after starting out as a big fan.

I mean why the 300 grand down payment to begin with? Did he have some pressing bill. And the 100 grand expenses? Seriously that's simply outrageous. Just because he never got the pay on time does not mean he was not going to get paid. As it turns out Mundines ticket sales are always bad but its the ppv numbers that make it up and again Shane was fronted half the money already. The contract demands from the get go look excessive makes makes the ending dubious at best. I agree that there must be much more to this story.

Maybe Shane was simply brought up to date on Mundines lack of drawing power and demanded the guarantee in case exactly this happened. That doesn't mean he wasn't hopeful that it would still sell or the promoters would gamble on it and pay him, he obviously needs to the money after all. It's not as if he'd rather waste his time training and making the trip to Australia for 300k than go through with the fight for a full million, which was his guarantee before the fight. It's a promoters job to project revenues and pay the fighters a fraction of that, if they fuck up to this point I don't see how the blame lies with anyone else. I'd bet Fenech just got fleeced royally by this Wharton character one way or another.

Well the whole thing stinks and I've been a fan of Shane since before he was lw champ.

A 300 thousand dollar down payment on services not rendered.
Over a 100 thousand dollars for expenses not yet incurred.
The balance of the million dollar purse paid in full two days before the bell rings.
A guarantee given and then refused even though they already in good faith paid half up front.
He goes home with 400 k in his pocket for doing sweet F all.

To me that's a scum bag.

You could well be right, maybe Shane knew this was a good possibility during/after negotiations. Still doesn't change that he's just the boxer, if there wasn't a much bigger scumbag or two involved I don't see how this would’ve went down. How uncommon is it to demand your purse before a fight overseas really? I have no idea.

Shane was going to walk away ages ago because there was loads of evidence the fight was in trouble, ticket sales etc. So they paid him the 300K up front and he arranged to have the rest paid before the fight. The other people agreed to that , then failed to keep their side of the agreement. There was zero chance he was going to get paid after the fight so he went home. What's the problem?

Also, he's had a training camp for this fight and has taken a bunch of people over there with him. He's obviously spent lots of money getting ready for the fight. It'll be in the contract that he's reimbursed for that too. Shane isn't the problem here unless you think he should fight for 30% of the amount he agreed to and then hope somehow he gets the rest after the fight.

Mundines venues make the money looking at past events on ppv. He draws huge for whatever reason. The problem with your opening premise is that it even makes look like more of a scum bag for taking the money off Fenech.

This Mundine fight wasn't making any money. It wasn't drawing flies. Mosley was promised 100K expenses and all his money before the fight. When he didn't get paid he's entitled to walk away. Nobody even knew Fenech put the money up till he went public about it. He's involved in the promotion in some way and having a beef with the main promoter. All Mosley knew is that the first payment went into his bank account.
