Could not agree with you more! Might be that I'm taking the bait here, but I have never liked Hopkins, last night was one of his worst performances.
Kissing his opponent on the back (a first for me, it could have happened before but I wasn't previliged to see it), strolling over to his opponents corner to disscuss the fight in the middle of a round (another first for me), doing everything possible to belittle a pretty much outclassed opponent (pure Hopkins) and turning a pro main event into something you would expect to see in a circus, performed by clowns.
It was a disgrace! I'm ashamed for the world to see how far pro boxing has fallen in the US.
Just because Hopkins is doing something exceptional in the ring--fighting and winning at a high level at 48--does not give him a pass to do as he pleases in the ring. Steve Smoger is on my shot list now, whatever Hopkins wanted to do seemed to be okeydokey with that good old boy Steve.
I thought the HBO crew were a bunch of pandering knuckleheads but the SHOWTIME crew made them look like amateurs.
Hopkins doesn't think of himself as just a boxer now, he is also an entertainer! I'm beginning to think he believes it's all about him instead of the boxing.
Hopkins is a thug in the ring, everything is about intimidation, pushing every rule to the limit and flat out cheating. Hopkins went to prison as a thug and came out the same way, luckily for society and Hopkins he found an outlet for his thuggery in boxing.
Hopkins doesn't want to be the best, he wants to win, there is a difference and I can't respect him or his attitude.
