Mastiffs were predominantly bred as guard dogs, and normal take to one person, other breeds
of dogs , Pit bull dog , presa canarios, large heavy boned breeds of dog, theses type of dogs are
not for first time dog owners.
When you consider owning a dog, think long and hard what traits you wish your dog to have,
the mistake made by many people they basically no fuck all about dogs.
Dogs that are popular at this moment are Staffs, they are pretty good with children but can
be very intolerant of other dogs.
Bull breeds in there nature, strong willed not the type of dog to be wondering the streets,
trouble is when a breed of dog becomes popular, they are bred anyhow because people
are out to make quick buck, great pity but it's the way of the World.

I have had the same dog for thirty years. Every time it dies I bring it to the pet shop, throw it on the counter and tell them to give me another just like it.

I had to jump in and shoot two views on a Rotti who weighed in around 140 Monday. Suspected a fracture in lower limb but no clear indicators, no muzzle. Very easy going and well trained dog but still full of that characteristic assertiveness and 'being in front' for lack of a better term. Great family pet..but would I ever consider a Rott or like breed in my home or around a child, no f'n way. An injured or fearful dog reacting or biting is one thing but to have the literal body and mass 4,5 times over should they turn is something you don't get a do over on. People lose respect for the dog...it's not a 'Horsey', it's not a toy, its as good as its owner or situation and should never be taken for granted or assumed!

My female attacks her brother sometimes real bad and I'm usually the trigger. I'm not sure spaying her will change he but she his do soon. They are Karelian bear dogs with a thousand years of history. She ironically looks like a Tahltan bear dog which is extinct and her brother who is twice the size looks Karelian. She was the runt of the litter and was born with a chip on here shoulder. She defines the phrase its not the size of the dog but the fight in the dog. She's a mean little bitch towards all dogs but loves people. A buddy of mine said I should let them finish the fight but I'm worried about vet bills because once they are at it..its appearance looks like a fight to the death. I wanted to purchase a Cane Corso before I got them but saved them instead.

It really is how you raise them, I've had no problems with my Rotti thus far with people or children.

I think the big problem is rotties and pitbulls in particular attract the macho, "gangsta" wanna be types who aren't doing the responsible things. Because these are big dogs with massive stopping power who can do real bad things when they aren't brought up right.

Mine is a great family dog, gets along with kids, my siblings, my folks, ect.

It really comes down to that, environment and raising as you the dominate one. Not overbearing to them, but equal approach in praising or correction. If you approach a breed like that unsure, erratic and hostile..you'll get that in return. I get newbies in who are fidgety and mistake being LOUD and forceful with leading or correction. Dog ain't listening to that, he's tucking his tail and putting up the defenses. Dogs read you just as much as you read tells or signs in them when working with them. I LOVE having aggressive pets come in and other than assisting in any way in saving a life..THE best feeling is turning a fear biter or basically "aggressive" dog into a ass wiggling ham by the end of the day. Every dog can bite, but when they get comfort-confidence and come around, it's absolutely f'kn awesome!

We get a few every week, some assclown with little man syndrome bringing in the Pitt. Massive collar...named "Tank" Tyson or Otto as examples. Rarely is there one unapproachable but you can never sleep on them. I had some whiffle Dick idiot ask about "tin snips and dry ice" half joking because we will not crop ears. It was all I could do to not wrap a trash can around his head. Animals pay for the idiocy and ignorance of man.

That dog whisperer guy "cesar" is pretty amazing. I like what he does and would like to believe a dog could lead a trouble free life.

    Ain't that the sad truth.

I don't have any experience owning a pitbull, but I know Rotties, Dobermen and German Shepherds are INCREDIBLY smart (all in the top 10 intelligence quotient for dogs) and they learn really fucking fast. But you need to take charge with them.

Cesar and a lot of other dog experts say that dogs really want to be lead. They don't want to be the pack leader, because that requires a lot of responsibility. But if they sense you're a pussy and a weak leader and lack the ability to show them obedience and train them, then they'll take the pack leader position and all of a sudden they're YOUR boss haha.

Some people aren't meant to own certain dogs.

I get what your saying bean, but i must say this is sometimes the typical answer from a caring dog owner. (Like yourself)

The only issue is all the other hundreds of stories we dont hear about and some we do hear about from caring owners.

I could happily get a pitbull or rottie or that huge type panther monster in the picture above, but only if it lived with me and me only.

No matter how much you think you know an animal or love an animal there is nothing from stopping it from turning at any moment!

Every creature on this earth has free will. One of Gods greatest gifts

Only takes a few seconds for permanent scarring or death.

How would you justify a situation if your dog did snap next week and attacked alittle girl?

Well there's no way I would try to justify my dog attacking a little girl. I would be devistated and would blame myself 100%. One of the big things I had to do early on was to socialize him not just with people but with little kids and he's always been great with them because of it.

But a "caring" owner and a "responsible" owner aren't necessarily the same thing. A lot of people THINK they are doing the right things out of ignorance, but in reality they're not giving the dog the obedience it needs.

Dogs aren't complex creatures. Just like with humans, you can trace any action back to a source. Like when a serial killer pops up, they have all sorts of reasons or warning signs that they look at after the fact. I believe if I could go and see the situation where the dog mauled someone and see how the dog was treated at home, I could pick out sure fire mistakes and warning signs. Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes it might be very subtle. But if you're going to own a "power breed" (rottie, pitbull, ect) then you really need to be extra careful.

Do you think most of these "gangsta" and meathead types are really plunking down the money for training? Or making sure they are socializing their pups every day with people and children? Bringing the dog to the dog park to meet other dogs? Taking hours out of their day to obedience train their dogs and reading up on the psychology of dogs so they can spot warning signs and potential problems?

Or is it more likely that they use the dog as a showpiece, or they want a guard dog who will tear apart any intruder. A dog that they leave out in the backyard all day and then wonder why he doesn't deal with strangers very well.
