Russian/Eastern European Influence on Cuban Boxing

I've read recently that Andrei Chervorenko and Vasili Romanov played a role in developing Cuba's boxing program after Cuba became communist. Can anyone tell me anymore about this history or point me to articles on it? Thanks in advance.

That is true. There entire system of sport was based on Marxist/Leninist doctrine. One of the reasons Napoles fled. They banned pro boxing as you know and brought in Russian coaches and for some reason some east German promoters. The real brains behind the boxing end was Alcides Sagarra but he needed to include some brain washers in on it hence the Russian coaches well versed in the theory of the group over the individual. I have some stuff buried somewhere on this very topic and will endeavor to find it for you.

Thanks @IamInuit - I was pretty sure Andrei Chervorenko was one of the boxing masters behind the system. Allegedly, the Soviet Union required him to return after his system in Cuba started doing better than Russian boxing.
