All depends on what weight... Mosely has the punch and chin of a HW. If at Jr. Welter and Welter I would have to give the edge to Mosely. But if at Middle and Jr. Middle I would have to give the edge to Cotto...

Mosley wins. Cotto is very good, but Mosley was great.

Cotto barely barely beat Mosely when he was getting past his prime.

Not quite. Great as in hall of famer.

    For me it goes:
    Contender
    Titlist
    Champion
    Great/Hall of famer
    Legend/ ATG
    GOAT/Roy Jones

I think you could argue Shane was an ATG at lightweight.

IMO,..Both were close enough to "Prime" when they fought, neither One was close to washed up......It was A Very Good close fight, and I thought Moseley won....But,...I did not feel like he would get the Dec....and he did not.....Cotto was A Virgineing Peurto Rican Superstar,...and Shane for all his talent`s,...simply was not ever going to be A Star...Great fight though, may go watch it again..!

He showed a lot of promise at 135 but failed to fight anybody to be regarded an ATG.

I think the Shane that jumped up to fight Oscar from 135 beats Cotto at 140 or 147. A 35 year old version came close but ran out of time. Had that fight been 15 I think Shane would have won it but that's here nor there. Cotto boxed beautifully in that fight with a marvelous controlling jab and had to many rounds in the bag for Shane to pull it out without a ko.

^^ What he said. Cotto boxed out of his skin in that fight, which both men were in very good form for imo. You got the sense that Mosley knew he had to be conservative with his punches though, if he was a bit fresher he could have come on earlier or perhaps even made the whole thing a fight, which Cotto was never going to win against him.

In the late 90s, Shane Mosley was a terrific Lightweight Champ.
There's always been lots of lightweights, none could compete with Mosley, he was leagues beyond them.

HBO used to put on these Double-Headers, a prime Roy Jones and a prime Shane Mosley on the same bill.

Larry Merchant said on one of those shows something about both these guys were like super-human, words to that effect. They both were amazing combinations of speed, power, reflexes, endurance.

Anyone trying to say Mosley was prime in the Margarito fight 10 years after those HBO double-headers is either an idiot or a young fan of Boxing...

Lean to Cotto. He was just able and proven to make more adjustments and I think he was the better all around boxer. Shane was a lightning at Light but atg..just don't see it.

A lot of respected posters are saying Cotto, am I missing something?

What weight was his peak? I am a Cotto fan but Shane was better in his prime.

He looked good in the first Oscar fight ... what else did he ever do?

Cotto beats any version of mosley..
the rematch tells all you need to know, seeing how that was a blatant robbery

on that note IMO it's not so black and white that Cotto would win, Mosely IMO was in his prime at 135, he was a beast, he had speed and power and didn't do that damn pokey fake jab as much, would have been a toss up really either Mosley by TKO or Cotto by UD
