I've been to China a few times and I've had guests from China stay at my place in the US. Many of the guests I've had thought it was nasty when I ate raw oysters. Cat and dog consumption, while it does happen, is not the norm in China. In poorer regions yes they eat everything but if food were not so plentiful here in the US I'd probably be one of the first guys to eat my cat.
I have heard that dog is quite popular in South Korea.

Koreans were poor and hungry when the war ended so they started eating dogs.. Not that it doesn't happen today, but it's definitely not as common today.. The ones who eat dogs are Koreans from the old generation, dog eaters are the minority.... Me personally, Ive never ate dogs and i dont plan to either cuz it smells disgusting..
White soilders used to eat dogs too during the Civil War...
When you are trying to survive, anything is game..
Fucking nasty.

I'd eat it. I like frog. I've eaten live octopus in Japanese restaurant. It's still moving when it's in your mouth. It's less rubbery* than when cooked. Nothing to write home about either way though.
*not making a joke here.
