Actually, on a treadmill, the time starts ticking as soon as the belt starts moving. But it takes the belt a few seconds to get up to speed, so by the time the time you're running fast, 10+ seconds have already elapsed, whereas on solid ground, you can start off up to speed instantly when the time starts ticking. That's why treadmills aren't good for testing how fast you can run a mile; better for testing how long you can run.Originally Posted by KevK
