These are the same people who believe in ALL of the big conspiracies: JFK's assassination, the moonlanding, chemtrails, ect. Why? Because for the most part these people are married to the thrill of thinking that they are deep, enlightened free thinkers, and are a part of something much bigger than themselves. They love painting everything black and white to reach (false) conclusions.
"The government has been caught lying to it's people before. That means the government are liars and they're lying about this."
"The government has hid things from it's people before. That means the government is hiding something about this."
"The government has carried out 'false flag' operations before. That means that this was a false flag operation."
"The government has killed people before. That means that they killed the 9/11 victims."
It's just nonsense. People will tell you "it's about the oil, maaan. They just wanted an excuse to invade the middle east and take the oil, maaaan."
Ok, so they used 9/11 and the threat of WMD's to invade the middle east. They constructed this INSANELY elborate conspiracy, which involved killing thousands of people, lugging thousands of pounds of explosives into one of the biggest and busiest buildings in the world and setting it up/installing it without anyone noticing, diverting passanger planes and flying them into the trade centers, getting hundreds of people to agree to this plan and keep it a secret...
...and they can do all this, but when they didn't find any WMD's overseas they just say "oops, guess there's no WMD here". They couldn't fake that to keep up their charade? Makes no sense.
