What's a "purse bid"...

For mandatory defences, if an agreement cannot be made, promoters make a 'purse bid'. In other words they bid a sum of money for a fight, that is split between the two fighters to make up the 'purse' for each fighter.

Are purse bids important? And how does one make money from that investment?

The promoter who wins the purse bid gets to decide where the fights staged too

I see... do they get a higher percentage of the gate revenues and the endorsements, or no?
