Boxing is the closest and fastest striking art therefore requires the fastest of reflexes than any other form of combat. That much will never change.
Possibly not a KO kick but they can control distance with their kicks. Also, leg kicks would be a huge factor. Land a few of them early on the boxer and you'll take away some of his power.
To be honest one good right and it's goodnight, the stead head MMA fighter will fall to bits like a cheap suit. They are to open they stand square on very poor defence, and most don't have a chin
as good as Khan, now that's saying something.
Yeah let's dispell the kickboxing myth first. Any proper boxer of similar size and level as a "thai boxer" would easily dispatch the kickboxer. Look at them. Take Mike Tyson, compare him to the HW kickboxing champion of the world. Under no circumstances can I envision the kickboxing champion surviving more than a minute against Tyson!

Moving on the MMA, this is a different kettle of fish. In theory, sure the MMA dude should kick ass against the "limited" boxer. However things may not be as they seem.

Boxing is a far and away more professional sport. The boxers are experienced to a far higher level than any MMA guy is (can elaborate if need be).

Boxing is also the most important tool of any fighter. Bruce Lee said it himself, of all the things you can be good at, it is the person who can "PUNCH BETTER" that will usually ultimately win the fight.

Funny thing is, boxing as we know it, EVOLVED from basically what UFC is today!!

In the 1700's James Figg was champion of boxing which involved wrestling and booting as well. In fact this was normal right up until John L Sullivan! We decided long ago what was good and what was not.

UFC is a throw back! Sure it's here to stay, but I can't see it ever overtaking boxing. UFC attracts a weird crowd imo.

Boxing attracts a somewhat dumb crowd at times, like those who believe that fucking shithouse boxers by comparison from 50 years ago could "take" todays fighters, but it is appreciated by all of it's practitioners and fans as the fine sport that it is. They didn't coin it the sweet science for fucking nothing!.

In Australia there are several boxing gyms to every MMA gym. Me and many of my schoolmates growing up went on to be boxers. I can name only a few who have taken to MMA. That says a lot!!
