Why 'Era vs Era' will always be an erroneous talking point...

There have been many other opinions of he past such as 'toughness' and 'sports nutrition' but I want to add a more philosophical element to the argument.

Firstly, I would like to preface my opinion with two quotes:

One is "Man is the measure of all things" -Protagoras (480-411 BCE)

The other is one that I put a lot of philosophical faith in to yet (alas) I'm not exactly sure who it was who said that ''all things are relative''.

How this impacts on my perception of the whole 'past v present' or even 'present v future' is that there have been (and always will be) fighters that stood out, way above the crowd for either their success and/ or their style of fighting, some of which are maestros - inspirational originators of sorts. Fighters that in hindsight, where before their time (in some cases way before their time).

Not just boxing, all sports.

We also forget that the past philosophy, means and methods of both fighters and trainers are passed on, inherited and developed upon.

What a fighter currently exhibits is wholly testament to all that has proceeded him.

Yup. Someone is gonna do the rope a dope better, shoulder roll better, the drop left hook better, the peak a boo better, etc, etc....

I think the WWs from the 80s and other fighters from the early to mid 90s were the best of all time and nobody in the future will surpass it. .. that is my boxing standard..
