Not the most technical display, but a very entertaining fight and exactly what the UFC needed: a crowd-pleasing, back and forth brawl with a happy ending (both getting contracts).
You're right, if the fight stunk, who knows if the UFC would have taken off like it did. Not only that fight, but pretty much the whole card was nothing but first round knockouts.
It's been 9 years already? damm.. I remember this fight like yesterday..
It was probably one of the best UFC fights ive seen on free tv..
Correct me if im wrong but didnt both of these guys get a contract after the fight, right on the spot??
I remember feeling sorry for the loser because they both fought their hearts out but then White decided to award both of them with UFC contracts..

It was a great fight and I remember watching it live when it happened as well.
Both guys were tough as nails, though Griffin went on to have the much, much better career.
