Shane used to be a terrific finisher...in the late-1990s in his prime.
Shane fought Floyd in 2010, but 2 years before that, Shane was already well past it, getting outboxed by Ricardo freakin' Mayorga of all people in 2008, for $#!t's sake !!
Y'know that saying, "All Great fighters have one last Great one in them."
For a washed-up Shane, the Margarito job in 2009 was it.
Floyd's made a career out of picking opponents at just the right time, it's sickening.
Almost every opponent has excuses because of Floyd's handpicking. It's best to fight a guy at his best and beat him at his best, then there's no excuses. Floyd stacking the deck every time out has given every one of his opponents an excuse.
I don't want to get into your post because its a tired subject to pick apart. But pertaining to this thread you're saying Floyd picked Mosley at the right time? Do you remember Floyd calling out Mosley when he was a lightweight crushing everybody? Do you remember the footage of Mosley coming up with excuses? You can't just pick out what you want to be remembered and expect us to forget what the rest of the truth is. And as far as this bout after Mosley destroyed Margarito he wanted both Floyd and Pac. I remember when it was in negotiations a lot of people saying Floyd will avoid Mosley and even Freddie Roach is on video saying he won't take the fight. Also Freddie is on video saying that Pac won't fight Mosley unless its at a catchweight of 143 and Mosley said you fought Oscar at 147 and Freddie said but you're not Oscar, you're better. But getting rocked doesn't mean you're within the finish. Mosley was dropped by Forrest and Pac and never got finished. It takes a lot to finish a great fighter. There are countless examples where a great fighter was rocked/dropped and never got finished. How many times did a prime Pac rock or drop Marquez? But in 4 fights he never finished him. Unless its one of those Marquez-like bombs finishing a guy like Marquez or Floyd is near the impossible. Those types adjust too well. Heck, shortly after those 2 shots Floyd adjusted and won the rest of the round.
Mosley ducked Floyd in 06-07 as well. Floyd called him out after the vargas fight and his excuse was that he had a " toothache ". All this was said during the post fight interview with merchant from what I remember.
Maybe he said this knowing that his boss oscar was going to face floyd but regardless, he claimed what he claimed.
He could have gave a better excuse.
I was jumping for joy when Shane hurt Floyd, really thought he would finish him off but Floyd changed gears and Shane nearly got stopped himself with the flawless performance.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
The blueprint for a fast accurate long defensive boxer like Mayweather, not that he was reading it, was all seen prior in Forrest x2 and Wright x2. Besides, if Mosley was in his prime he would not be fighting MayweatherIt was always a case of fastest route is a straight line vs Mosley loading up behind that puff-puff throw away jab he showed too often.
